Indian BSF Constable Purnab Kumar Shaw was captured by Pakistan Rangers after unintentionally crossing the border in Punjab’s Ferozepur sector. Efforts are ongoing to bring him back safely.

Ferozepur, Punjab —
In a tense development amid growing India-Pakistan border tensions, an Indian Border Security Force (BSF) soldier, Constable Purnab Kumar Shaw, was captured by Pakistan Rangers after he accidentally crossed the International Border near the Ferozepur sector on April 23, 2025.
According to reports, Constable Shaw was assisting local farmers close to the zero line when he inadvertently moved beyond the border fence. He was in uniform and carrying his service rifle at the time of the incident.
Immediately after the event, senior officials from the BSF initiated contact with their Pakistani counterparts and requested a flag meeting to ensure the safe return of the soldier. Formal procedures are underway to facilitate his release.
Family’s Plea for His Safe Return
Back home in Hooghly district, West Bengal, Shaw’s family is grappling with anxiety and distress. His wife, Rajni Shaw, made an emotional appeal:
“I can’t wait anymore. I will go to any extent. My husband’s safe return is my top priority now.”
The entire village is rallying behind the family, hoping for the quick and safe return of Constable Shaw.
Border Tensions Rising
This incident comes amid already heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025, which claimed 26 innocent lives. India has accused Pakistan-based terror groups of orchestrating the attack, leading to a raft of retaliatory measures including:
Cancellation of visas for Pakistani nationals.
Suspension of the Indus Water Treaty.
Heightened security protocols along the border.
In response, Pakistan has suspended the Shimla Agreement and closed its airspace to Indian airlines, escalating hostilities further.
What Happens Next?
Sources suggest that India is pressing diplomatically and militarily to ensure Shaw’s safe return. Flag meetings between the BSF and Pakistan Rangers have already begun, and senior officials are optimistic about resolving the issue swiftly.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the volatility at the India-Pakistan border and the challenges faced by soldiers posted along these high-tension zones.
